Police investigate death at South Coast beach

A man has died after being found unconscious in the water at Tabourie Beach near Ulladulla on Thursday.

Emergency services were called to the beach after reports of a body seen in the water about 3.30pm.

Police, Marine Rescue, and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter conducted a land and sea search and located an unconscious man 500m north of Stokes Island.

The man was airlifted to Milton Hospital but died a short time later.

The individual has not been identified, however NSW Police believe he was a 26-year-old Victorian man.

Officers from the South Coast Police District believe the man was fishing in an orange inflatable dinghy.

An orange dinghy was found at Tabourie Beach.

Police urge anyone who may have seen the man in the orange dinghy on Thursday to come forward to assist the investigation.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
