Police investigate as woman glassed outside Newcastle city centre pub in daylight assault

A woman was glassed in a busy street in Newcastle city centre in a shocking daylight attack.

Police and an ambulance were called to High Bridge off Grey Street in Newcastle just after 3.30pm on Thursday.

A fight outside The Bacchus pub had been reported to police and when officers arrived an injured woman said she had been assaulted with a glass.

An ambulance which had been sent to the scene was cancelled as the woman was not seriously injured.

A police car was parked up outside the pub as the investigation into the attack was carried out.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said the investigation is ongoing.

A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 3.36pm to a patient injured on High Bridge in Newcastle. We dispatched a double crewed ambulance.

"Our ambulance was cancelled for the patient who did not require our assistance."
