Police investigate as toddler dies after being struck by car in driveway west of Melbourne

An investigation is underway after an infant was struck by a car in regional Victoria on Monday.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives said it was believed the toddler was on a driveway at a rural property in Toolern Vale, when the child was hit just after 11am.

Toolern Vale is 10 kilometres north of Melton, and is west of Melbourne.

Emergency services attended the property on Diggers Rest-Coimadai Road but the child died at the scene.

Police have confirmed the child was a 17-month-old girl.

Police said the driver of the vehicle was not injured and was currently assisting authorities with enquiries into the incident.
