Police investigate alleged illegal hunting at Barrington property

Damage: Police believe the fence was removed to allow illegal hunting.

Police are investigating a case of suspected illegal hunting at a Barrington Tops property.

The Hunter Valley Rural Crime Prevention Team is seeking anyone who saw a gate being removed at land at Tomalla between August 6 and 13.

Police say the gate was removed from the post to allow a vehicle to pass and investigators believe the people responsible for trespassing did so in order to illegally hunt on the property.

According to police, a second trespassing incident occurred at the same property on August 15.

Investigators say they have identified the vehicle.

"It is suspected those responsible were again involved in illegally hunting on the property," police said in a post on social media.

"Rural Crime investigators wish to speak with the occupants of the vehicle ... as we believe that they will be able to assist with our inquiries."

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is being asked to contact Muswellbrook Police Station or Crime Stoppers.
