Police are appealing for information from the public after a Hunter home was the target of two suspicious fires in the past week.

Fire and Rescue NSW crews were called to a home on Bligh Street, Muswellbrook, about 5am on Tuesday after neighbours reported that the building was engulfed in flames.

It came after firefighters were called to the home about 4.30am on Saturday and extinguished a blaze at the front of the property.

Hunter Valley police set up a crime scene at the site and are investigating the incidents.

Police said in a statement on Tuesday that the fires were believed to be "suspicious".

Police said there was no-one inside the home at the time of either fire, but the building was "completely destroyed" in the latest blaze.

On social media on Tuesday morning, Fire and Rescue NSW's Aberdeen brigade described the house as having been "completely gutted as a result of the fire".

Anyone with information that could help with the investigation is being asked to contact Muswellbrook police on 6542 6999 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
