An investigation is under way after the body of a man was found following a house fire in central west NSW.

Emergency services responded to reports of a house on fire in Woodstock, 20km north of Cowra, about 2.20am on Saturday.

A neighbour called triple-zero after noticing an orange glow in the sky.

Firefighters managed to extinguish the blaze at the property on Alison Drive but found the body of a man inside the home.

The man is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in his 60s.

The man is believed to have lived alone at the time of the blaze, a NSW Police spokesperson told AAP.

A crime scene will be examined by specialist police.
