Police investigate after gun fired at Commodore

Police are investigating an alleged public place shooting at Lake Macquarie in the early hours of Monday morning.

Investigators have been told that a white Holden Commodore was travelling south along Wilsons Road at Mount Hutton about 1.30am when the vehicle stopped at the intersection of Assisi Circuit.

Police said in a statement on Monday that the four male occupants of the Commodore spoke with two men from another vehicle before a firearm was allegedly fired at the Holden.

The two men in the other vehicle fled the scene.

Officers from Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene and have started an investigation.

Police are calling for anyone who has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area near the Wilsons Road and Assisi Circuit intersection about 1.30am on Monday to contact investigators.

Information can be passed on by contacting Belmont Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Leads can be given to police anonymously through the Crime Stoppers phone line or online portal.
