Mother charged with attempted murder for allegedly stabbing teenage daughter

A bloody footprint on the driveway outside the townhouse where the attack occurred.

Police have charged a 37-year-old mother with the attempted murder of her teenage daughter after a stabbing incident at Wynnum on Brisbane's bayside early on Sunday morning.

The 17-year-old girl was stabbed multiple times in the face, neck and back.

It is believed a kitchen knife was used in what police described as a "gruesome" attack.

Critical care paramedics were called to the townhouse complex just after 5:00am.

They treated the teenager at the scene for her stab wounds.

She was taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Her father told the ABC his daughter was "not doing good".

Pools of blood were visible on the driveway of the townhouse complex and smeared on the front door of the family's residence.

The girl's mother is due to appear in Wynnum Magistrates Court on Monday.
