Police install metal detectors at Glasgow train station after schoolboy murder

Police have installed metal detectors at a Glasgow train station after two schoolboys were brutally attacked in ''shocking acts of violence'.

Fourteen-year-old schoolboy Justin McLaughlin died in hospital after being found seriously injured at High Street station in broad daylight on October 16.

Cops are also investigating the attempted murder of a 13-year-old boy which took place the day before.

Now 'Knife arches' have been put into operation at Glasgow Central Station low level by British Transport Police and enhanced patrols on city trains have been launched to help 'provide public reassurance' following the incidents, reports Glasgow Live.

A 16-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in court on Wednesday (October 20) charged with Justin's murder.

Meanwhile three male youths, aged 13, 15 and 16, have been arrested and charged in connection with the separate attack of an attempted murder of the 13-year-old.

In response to the installation of metal detectors at Glasgow Central, a spokesman for British Transport Police said: "Passengers will notice enhanced patrols on trains, as well as the use of knife arches in stations, to provide public reassurance in response to the two separate shocking acts of violence on the rail network last weekend.

"Passengers continue to be our eyes and ears and they can help us by reporting crimes and concerns by texting 61016 or calling 999 in an emergency.”
