Police incident in Ynyswen, Rhondda: Number of casualties in serious incident

Police dealing with a serious incident in the Rhondda say they are dealing with a "number of casualties".

Emergency services were called to Baglan Street, Ynyswen, Treorchy, at around midday on Friday. The road has been closed off and there are multiple police cars and ambulances at the scene. The air ambulance landed in a field close to the street. You can follow live updates from the scene here.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: "Ambulance crews are also in attendance as the incident involves a number of casualties."

People are advised to avoid the area until further notice. The spokesman added: "Further updates will be released when they are available."

Anybody who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact 101 immediately and give reference *077519.

A resident in the area said: “I live in the street, it was about half past 12 and I was on my way to meet my friend.

"As I came around the corner there was loads of sirens going past and I saw four police at the bottom with guns telling people they couldn’t come down the hill."

They added: "They were saying can you get back. Then a couple of minutes later I saw someone getting stretchered off into the back of an ambulance literally outside the Chinese by the hill.”
