Trams were partly suspended on the East Didsbury line on Tuesday night as police dealt with an incident.
Several GMP vehicles and an ambulance were seen outside Burton Road Metrolink stop shortly before 11pm.
One eyewitness saw paramedics on the tram tracks, but no details have yet been confirmed by emergency services.
Transport for Greater Manchester posted on their website shortly before 11pm: "Due to a police incident, the East Didsbury line is currently part suspended.
"Services will run between Deansgate-Castlefield and St. Werburgh's Road. There are no services between St Werburghs Road and East Didsbury.
"Tickets, passes and contactless are being accepted on 43, 101, 102, 103, 85, 86, 142 & 143buses. Touch-in and out at the tram stops as normal. Sorry for any inconvenience
"Metrolink apologises for any inconvenience this may cause."
Greater Manchester Police were contacted for a response.
