Police incident forces closure of Thornliebank train station on Glasgow's south side

A police incident forced the closure of Thornliebank station in Glasgow's south side this morning and saw a nearby street closed off to traffic.

Reports suggest emergency services arrived on the scene around 1am this morning, with locals noting a significant police presence near the station and a police helicopter around that time.

An eyewitness informed Glasgow Live that a police cordon was in place on Thornliebank Road at the junction of Boydstone Road around 6am this morning - with police still at the scene.

Rail services were suspended to the station by ScotRail around 6am this morning until around 8:30am, with services altered so that trains between Glasgow Central station and East Kilbride ran non-stop between Pollokshaws West and Giffnock.

The tweeted: "Due to the police dealing with an incident between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride our services between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride will be running non-stop between Pollokshaws West and Giffnock. Thornliebank will not be served."

Rail services resumed again at the station around 9am after the departure of the emergency services.

Both Police Scotland and British Transport Police have been approached for comment.
