Kilmarnock bypass has been brought to a standstill while police deal with an incident.
A police 4x4 was spotted racing to the scene on the A71 shortly after 4pm this afternoon.
An eye-witness also spotted debris, which looked like huge rocks, scattered all over the road.
The incident is between Moorfield roundabout and Bellfield Interchange.
One eye-witness said: "The traffic was moving so slowly. It was completely stopped at points.
"It didn't look like a crash or anything like that.
"When I left the bypass I could see huge rocks and bits of mud all over the road. God knows where it came from."
