Police in Wishaw issue description of tattooed public sex offender and car seen in areas of incidents

Police have moved to reassure women in Wishaw after a man indecently exposed himself to several females in the town.

Between 6.15pm and 7.15pm on Sunday, October 4, the man flashed his private parts to women in Castlehill Road, Netherton Road and Netherton Street.

Sergeant Allan Barnstaple, of Wishaw Police Office, said: “These incidents have caused quite some distress to the young females who were subjected to them.

“This type of behaviour is totally unacceptable and it is vital that we trace the man responsible.

“He is described as being Asian in appearance, of stocky build with short dark messy hair and a short black beard. He was wearing a black or blue short-sleeved t-shirt and blue jeans.

“He has a tattoo on his left arm. I would appeal to anyone who may have been on any of these roads on Sunday evening to get in touch with us on the 101 number if they saw anything which might help in this investigation.

“In particular we are keen to trace what has been described as a black-coloured VW Golf car which was seen in these areas around this time.

“I would also ask if anyone who may have been in a vehicle fitted with a dash-cam device on these roads on Sunday evening could check their device to see if it holds any information which might assist us.

“Callers should quote the reference number 3438 of 4 October 2020. Anyone wishing to pass on any information whilst remaining anonymous can do so through Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Inspector Stephen Murray, from Wishaw Police Office, told the Wishaw Press there have been no further incidents in the town since then.

He added: “We have been providing extra attention to that area of Wishaw over the last few days. It was a frightening experience for the individuals involved and we would ask if anyone has information to come forward.”

Local officers are also appealing for witnesses after several bins were wilfully set on fire in the early hours of October 4 in Wishaw’s Kirk Road.

Inspector Murray added: “We are coming into the time of year where bin thefts are becoming more prevalent.

“We would ask the public to take extra care to secure their bins.

“Bin thefts have been a problem in the past and we don’t want a repeat.”

Anyone with information on these incidents should contact officers on 101.
