Police in Warrington issue warning as huge queues form near Burger King drive thru

Police in Warrington were forced to issue a warning after long queues formed when a Burger King drive-thru reopened.

The Cheshire force tweeted out for people to avoid the area near the M62 junction as a result of the queue on Wednesday afternoon.

Warrington Police said: "There are large queues around the M62 junction with Warrington with a lot of people waiting for the Burger King drive thru - please avoid the area to reduce congestion."

One person replied: "The North West aren't yet on the downward trajectory.

"The North West saw its highest number of Covid-19 cases last week.

"Yet people have seen fit to block the M62 junction queuing for Burger King. Book them for causing an obstruction!"

The fast food chain's drive thrus have been closed since mid-March when the country went into lockdown.

The Warrington branch is one of 35 of the company's restaurants which reopened today as coronavirus lockdown restrictions were eased.

On Monday, the burger chain will open even more restaurants up and down the country.

Staff have been given additional PPE such as masks and gloves, and all deliveries will be contactless as drivers keep their distance from customers by stepping back once they’ve left food at customers’ doors.

Katie Evans, Marketing Director at Burger King UK said: "We are so pleased to be able to open more restaurants across the UK this week, including our first restaurant for customer Drive Thru - which is a huge step forward."
