Police are in a stand-off with a man who climbed on a roof after he reportedly assaulted an officer in north London.

An officer was allegedly assaulted by a man in Down Hills Park Road, Tottenham, at about 3pm on Monday.

The officer was responding after a member of the public had reported that the man was acting suspiciously.

Scotland Yard said the suspect "made off from the scene" before being located in the nearby Kirkstall Avenue.

"Officers located the man on the roof of a property on Kirkstall Avenue, where he remains," said a Met spokesperson on Monday night.

"The injured officer was taken to hospital for treatment and his injuries are not life threatening."

A police negotiator and the London Fire Brigade were at the scene.

The area was cordoned off while emergency services attend.
