Police searching for missing Glee star Naya Rivera have ruled out suicide following a statement from her four-year-old son.
The actress went missing on Wednesday while on a rented boat with her son Josey Hollis at Lake Piru.
A search and recovery operation is still under way after the Ventura County Sheriff's office said on Thursday that the 33-year-old is now presumed dead.
Sergeant Kevin Donoghue told People that after speaking with Josey, they have found no evidence as to why the actress would have taken her own life.
"We interviewed her son and there was nothing that we learned from her son that would have suggested that this was suicide," he said.
"Everything that we've learned so far leads to this being some sort of water recreational accident.
"To say definitively what actually happened, we really can’t say. We just don’t know, it's a mystery," Donoghue added.
"We're still investigating, we're still searching. We're trying to uncover clues as we go.
"But so far, we really don't have a lot of information to make any guesses as to what could have happened."
The officer also said that it's unclear whether Josey climbed back into the boat himself, or if Rivera helped him back in, adding: "I know she was in the water. I don’t know if she helped him back on the boat. That I don’t know."
Fresh fears on Saturday suggested her body may have become "entangled underwater" and may never be found.
Josey's report about his mother has left police: "Very confident she's in water," Donoghue said .
Josey was found asleep and alone on the boat while wearing a life jacket. An adult-sized life jacket was also found on board.
Police told the PA news agency that Josey, who is safe and well, observed his mother disappear under the waves during their boating trip.
There is no evidence to suggest Rivera, best known for playing Santana Lopez on musical comedy series Glee, left Lake Piru,Donoghue said.
