Police in Perth filmed insisting a man claiming to have the coronavirus goes home

A disturbing video of police enforcing the stay at home policy on Perth High Street has gone viral with over 40,000 views.

A resident filmed the two-minute clip out his upper floor window on Thursday.

Several police officers on bicycles and squad vans are spread out along Perth High Street outside Primark and the St John’s Shopping Centre entrance, when a single man presents a problem.

In the confrontation on the otherwise empty street, the man waves his arms aggressively at the officers who tell him to go home. He tells them he has coronavirus.

When he does not move, a policeman in high-vis on a bike shouts: “Go home scumbag...or you’ll go to jail! You should not be out. You’re killing people!”

More exclamations are vaguely audible in the video clip.

The police officer uses his bike as a barrier when the man steps towards him and screams back. Other officers line up around to ensure the man moves off.

Unsteady on his feet, the man walks away towards the council buildings and police cyclists follow at a distance.

The rooftop observer then turns his phone on himself and discusses the issues the police have and urges them to put the man and others who won’t comply, in a cell.

Police Scotland has been given the power to break up gatherings and fine all those who do not stick to the UK’s lockdown policy.
