The Roads Policing Unit at Merseyside Police has issued a fresh warning to e-scooter riders - they are illegal to use on public roads. Officers spotted one last night being ridden at around 30mph in the Halewood area of the city, and took action.
They tweeted at 10.22pm on Friday: "E-scooter sighted being ridden at approximately 30mph in the Halewood area. Vehicle stopped and seized for having no insurance.
"A 16-year-old male had been the rider, whose parents had bought it for him. Like it or not, private e-scooters are not road legal."
The machines can be purchased legally in the UK but e-scooters can only be used on private land and not on public roads, cycle lanes or pavements. The only e-scooters that can be used on public roads are those that are rented as part of Government-backed trials.
