Police in East Kilbride launch fresh appeal into Greenhills robbery

Police in East Kilbride have stepped up their search for a knife-wielding thug who robbed a convenience store in Greenhills.

A 40-year-old woman was one of two female store workers in the shop at the time.

She was assaulted in the incident on the night of Wednesday, March 27, with her attacker demanding money.

CID officers say they are continuing their efforts to trace the man responsible for the “terrifying ordeal”.

Detective Constable Craig Jolly said: “We have been carrying out a number of enquiries and now know the suspect was hanging around the back of St Andrews Methodist Church for around 10 minutes prior to the incident.

“We know there were people within the area at the time who will have seen something and we are urging them to get in touch.”

The incident is said to have happened round 7.10pm, when a man wearing a balaclava entered the store and produced a knife.

Police say he proceeded to assault one of the staff members, demanding money, but left the premises empty handed.

Witnesses say he made off along Cedar Drive, in the direction of St Andrew’s Methodist Church.

He is described as wearing a balaclava, a black bomber-style jacket with a fluorescent green zip and grey jogging bottoms. He was also carrying a black rucksack.

DC Jolly added: “This was a terrifying ordeal for both women working in the store and it is vital we trace the person responsible.

“Think back, where were you last Wednesday evening? We are also appealing for those with dash-cam footage or personal CCTV to check back and get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101. Information can be left anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
