Police in Canada looking for 'murdered' tot and mum fear snow will ruin search

Police who suspect a British man of murdering a mum and her toddler in Canada fear they will never find the bodies in the snow.

Flurries have hampered teams hunting Jasmine Lovett, 25, and her girl Aliyah Sanderson, 22 months.

Robert Leeming, 34, originally of Marlborough, Wilts, is prime suspect.

The mechanic was Jasmine’s live-in landlord and claims they were lovers.

Police, who yesterday called off the hunt due to the weather , are growing increasingly frustrated, leading to fears the mum and tot may never be found unless the killer confesses.

Triple rape suspect Joseph McCann being 'hidden by friends or family', police say

A source said: “Everyone is determined to find them.

“But the conditions are against them and so is the size of the area.

“It’s like looking for a button in a field.”

The pair were last seen on April 16.

Leeming has denied any role in the disappearances and told the Mirror he last saw them on April 18 before a date with another girl.

The search is centred in the foothills of Alberta’s Rocky Mountains, 40 minutes’ drive from the pair’s home in Cranston, Calgary.

Investigators were drawn there by phone mast data.

Leeming is on bail. Police believe he may have burned evidence and have taken his SUV for tests.
