Police have identified the man who died while kayaking at Point Hut on Sunday as Canberra's Toby Carr.
The 48-year-old died after his kayak became stuck under a bridge on the Murrumbidgee River.
Through a statement posted on a Canberra kayaking Facebook page, Mr Carr was described as a "dedicated and loving husband, father and son".
The statement said Mr Carr was a "highly experienced" and "capable" kayaker.
He was with a group of kayakers when the accident occurred and many had assisted in a rescue.
"There was a large group of experienced and qualified paddlers, river rescue experts and public who rendered immediate support and tirelessly established mechanical systems to effect a rescue," the statement said.
"Unfortunately, the paddler was unable to be rescued and his body was recovered many hours later at the site by expert fire and rescue personnel after water levels had abated.
"Many people were present at the rescue site and it is acknowledged they will be deeply impacted."
