Police identify man wanted for questioning over fatal Hobart crash

Tasmania Police has released the identity of a man wanted for questioning over a fatal car crash in the Hobart suburb of New Town last week.

Police said they wanted to speak to Zach Muir-Bennett about a crash that killed 42-year-old Vanessa Hayward on Thursday night.

Ms Hayward's car was sideswiped by a grey Mitsubishi Magna at the intersection of Pirie and Roope Streets and the impact forced both vehicles onto the footpath.

As Ms Hayward was trapped in her vehicle, the driver and occupant of the Magna fled.

Ms Hayward was later taken to Royal Hobart Hospital but was pronounced dead soon after.

Her male passenger was also taken to hospital with abdominal injuries.

Police asked anyone who has seen Mr Muir-Bennett or knows his whereabouts to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
