The 44-year-old died after a fight between him and another man about 9.15pm. Police are treating his death as suspicious.

The Canberra Times understands the fight between the men broke out in the pub's pool room, in full view of customers and bar staff. It is understood there were no security cameras in the room.

Paramedics, staff and police attempted to save the man but he died at the scene.

Police have not said what caused his injuries but did say no weapons were involved. It is not known what led to the fight, nor if the pair were known to each other.

Detective acting superintendent Matt Reynolds said it was a very distressing incident and there had been a number of witnesses.
