Police identify body of man pulled from Water of Leith as probe into death continues

Police have confirmed that a body recovered from the Water of Leith in Edinburgh is a 57-year-old man.

The alarm was raised shortly before 8am on Saturday, April 10, after the grim discovery was made near Couper Street.

Emergency services raced to the scene with police and fire crews managing to pull the tragic man from the waterway.

Officers say the man’s family have now been informed and an investigation into the circumstances remains ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55am on Saturday, 10 April, 2021, we received a report of the body of a man in the Water of Leith near Couper Street in Edinburgh.

“The body of a 57-year-old man was recovered from the water and his next of kin have been informed.

"Inquiries into the circumstances are ongoing and as with all sudden deaths, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
