Police hunting violent criminal who has absconded from Leyhill jail

Police are hunting a prisoner who has absconded from jail.

Wayne Bridges, 58, is serving a prison sentence for robbery and assault at HMP Leyhill.

But after being let out on day release yesterday (October 24), he hasn't returned.

He left the open prison in South Gloucestershire at 8am for an appointment in Bath.

Bridges was due back at 4.30pm and failed to return.

He is described as white, about 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build with short grey hair and has connections in the Midsomer Norton area.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Constabulary said: "If you know where he is now, do not approach him but call 999.

"If you have any other information which could help officers to locate him, ring 101, quoting reference 5219246971.

"Alternatively ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. They never ask your name or trace your call."
