Police are on the scent of an apparent £250,000 perfume heist. The haul of high-end fragrances was reportedly stolen from an empty sweet factory in Cheshire.
Police have confirmed that a break-in at the premises was reported to them but there is no trace so far of the missing goods. The incident happened at a former premises on the Adlington Business Park in Macclesfield.
The goods were the property of Royal Fragrances London, a "UK niche luxury perfumes brand" that manufacturers perfumes in England and exports to the Middle East. They cost £250 to £350 a bottle.
In a statement the company said: "In the evening of February 25th 2023, a severe crime occurred at a warehouse in Adlington. A manager of the warehouse says that more than ten people broke into the facility and loaded up their vans with Royal Fragrances London's high-end, luxury niche perfumes. The stolen products are thought to be worth more than £250,000 on five to six pallets."
The company added: "On February 25th the officers from the Cheshire Police showed up at the scene, but it doesn't appear like they made any arrests for the crime."
The company says it was two weeks later on March 13th that they became aware of the theft only when an employee of the warehouse responded with a criminal reference number after a representative of the perfume company asked to have an overseas order completed.
In a statement the company said: "We phoned the Police on the 16 March 2023 for an update but they have not offered any details other than that police officers were on site. We want the perfumes to be recovered as quickly as possible."
The company claims that they had five to six pallets of fragrances stored with a warehouse company but that the goods were moved from Congleton to Adlington on February 24th.
A spokesperson for Cheshire Constabulary confirmed that they were called to premises on the Adlington Business Park at 7.30pm on February 25th after a report of having taken place at an old factory.
The spokesperson said: "Someone visiting the industrial estate noticed that a padlock on the building had been cut. Police attended but there was nothing in there except a few sweets on the floor." They confirmed that officers have since been in touch with the perfume company and are making inquiries.
On the company's website their products are described as: "As a House of niche luxury perfumes, Royal Fragrances London was created to restore the passion and perfection in our perfumery with the belief that scents can evoke beautiful memories. Our scents will remind you of the pleasant days gone by with our creative fusion and timeless scents.
