Police hunting teenage boy after property 'deliberately' set on fire in murder bid

POLICE are hunting for a teenager wanted for attempted murder after a property was deliberately set on fire in South Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire set at a property in Whiteford, Girvan, at around 10.45pm on Saturday.

A 21-year-old woman was rescued by a member of the public who forced their way into the building.

Police confirmed that no one was injured and that they are treating the incident as attempted murder.

Detectives are now looking for a male suspect, aged in his late teens, who was wearing dark-coloured clothing and a black baseball cap.

Police said the suspect was last seen running in the direction of Assel Place.

Detective constable Gill Wilson said: “This was a dangerous and completely reckless act. Luckily, the woman was not injured; however, the consequences could have been much more serious.

“We are treating this incident as attempted murder. “We are working to trace the person responsible as soon as possible, and I urge anyone with information that may assist our investigation to please contact us.

“If you were in the area on Saturday evening and witnessed anything suspicious or have any details or footage that will help our enquiries, please come forward.

“Information can be passed through 101, quoting incident number 3595 of September 13, 2025.

“Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111, where anonymity can be maintained.”
