Police hunting prisoner who absconded from HMP Castle Huntly during home leave visit

Police are hunting a prisoner who has absconded from HMP Castle Huntly.

Sean Bonar, 29, breached his license while on home leave on Monday, April 8.

Officers are appealing to the public for information regarding his whereabouts.

He is described as five foot nine inches tall, average build with short dark hair.

It is thought that Bonar has connections in the Glasgow area.

Members of the public have been warned not to approach him.

The Scottish Prison Service said it does not comment on individual prisoners.

A spokeswoman said: "A rigorous risk assessment is undertaken prior to any offender being granted un-escorted leave.

"The majority of these take place without incident.

"Those on home leave are released on licence conditions.

"Where an individual breaches their licence conditions, the Scottish Prison Service will work with Police Scotland to apprehend the individual who is now unlawfully at large."

Anyone wishing to provide information should contact Police Scotland on 101 or 999 or you can do so through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 .
