Police hunting motorcyclist after suspected hit-and-run in Northumberland

Police are hunting for a motorcyclist involved in a suspected hit and run in Northumberland.

Officers were called around 1.45pm on Saturday to a report of a collision between a small 50cc motorcycle and a cyclist on Links Road, near the Mermaid car park in Blyth.

Witnesses quickly flagged down nearby officers and the 52-year-old cyclist was given medical treatment at the scene.

It is understood the cyclist sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The male driver of the motorcycle has then fled the area as officers arrived on scene.

Police have now launched an investigation and inquiries to identify and locate him are now ongoing.

A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "A number of witnesses have already come forward and officers are reviewing CCTV as part of their enquiries.

"However, we are asking for any witnesses still yet to speak to officers to come forward to help with enquiries."

The rider, or anyone who witnessed the collision, is asked to contact police on 101 quoting log 591 20/03/21.

Alternatively you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
