Police hunting missing parents who took baby from care without permission

A missing mum-and-dad are being sought by police after vanishing with their seven month old baby.

Gareth Roberts, 37, and Gemma Thomas, 35, are the natural parents of the baby who is currently in care.

Roberts and Thomas, from Porth, South Wales, took the child from a contact centre during a visit arranged by social workers.

Police say they are "urgently" appealing for information on their whereabouts after they disappeared after the visit in Rhydyfelin, Pontypridd, five miles from their home.

CCTV shows the couple leaving the centre with red-haired Thomas pushing a pram and Roberts walking behind her carrying a blue shopping bag.

A South Wales Police spokesperson said: "Police in Pontypridd are appealing to the natural parents of a looked-after infant to make contact.

"They took their seven month-old infant from a contact centre in Pontypridd at approximately 10am today (Monday, 21 October) without the consent of the local authority.

"The man and woman involved are Gareth Roberts, 37, and Gemma Thomas, 35, both from Porth.

"A CCTV still captures them after they left the centre.

"Officers are trying to locate them - the last sighting was in Rhydyfelin but their current location is unknown. It is believed they may attempt to travel out of the area so officers are also appealing to people living outside the area.

"Anybody who may have seen them or who knows where they are should contact police immediately giving reference *388908 or they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
