Police hunting man who punched ticket inspector on train when asked for ticket

Passengers shoved a man off a train in Yorkshire after he punched a ticket inspector.

British Transport Police say the man threw a punch when he was asked for a ticket on a train travelling from Wakefield Kirkgate to Barnsley.

It happened at around 4.10pm on Monday, February 3.

Passengers intervened and when the train arrived at Barnsley station, they pushed him off and helped the injured ticket inspector.

Police have released a CCTV image of a man (shown above) who they want to question about the attack.

In a statement, police said: "Officers would like to speak to the man in the image who may have information that could help their investigation.

"Anyone who knows him is asked to contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40 and quoting reference number 370 of 03/02/20.

"Alternatively, call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
