A manhunt has been launched for a hammer attacker who struck a rail passenger in the head and pushed him onto the tracks at an east London station.
The victim, in his 30s, suffered a fractured skull after he was struck and shoved into the path of oncoming trains at the All Saints DLR station in Poplar on Monday night.
He managed to run over on to the opposite platform and scramble to safety before being taken to hospital for treatment.
British Transport Police (BTP) have released CCTV images of the male suspect and appealed to the public for the help to identify him.
The victim remains in hospital, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
“Clearly this is a very concerning attack,” said Detective Superintendent Nick Sedgemore of the British Transport Police. "Enquiries have been underway since it occurred to locate the suspect and understand his motive. We ask anyone who knows the identity of the man pictured to get in touch.”
A BTP spokesperson added that the victim was pushed onto the tracks but ran over to the other platform and escaped.
“He suffered fractures to the skull and remains in hospital," they said. "His injuries are not described as life-threatening or life-changing.”
