Police hunting man following attempted robbery at Gateshead chemist

A chemist in Gateshead has been targeted in an attempted robbery.

Police confirmed that a man went into Young's Chemist on Sheriff's Highway in Low Fell on Thursday afternoon.

He then threatened staff before leaving without taking anything and getting into a vehicle.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At about 2.50pm police received a report of an attempted robbery at a chemist on Sheriff’s Highway in Gateshead.

"It was reported that a man had entered the chemist and threatened staff before leaving empty-handed. He has then left the scene in a vehicle.

"Officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries to identify and locate the person responsible but thankfully nobody has been injured."
