Police issued an urgent appeal to find the parents of two toddlers discovered on their own in a town.

The two girls were found in the coastal town of Lowestoft, in Suffolk, at roughly 9.30am.

They were looked after at a police station before officers reunited them with their family.

In a later tweet, the force said: "Lowestoft Police have reunited the two toddlers found in the town's Crown Street West this morning with their family and want to thank public and media for their help."

It came after a local resident wrote on Facebook: "Someone in Lowestoft must be missing their two little girls!

"Approximately two and three years old maybe a little older.

"Someone must know someone with 2 little girls, or someone must be missing their little girls.

"If anyone knows whose children these are or could be, they're at Lowestoft police station."
