Police hunting for driver who fled after head-on crash shuts main road

Police are searching for the driver of a car who fled the scene of a crash in Bury.

Officers closed off part of Spring Grove, in Whitefield, at the roundabout with Radcliffe New Road just after 1pm today, January 6.

The crash involved two cars, a red Toyota and a grey Vauxhall, which appeared to have collided at the roundabout.

A number of police cars were called, including an unmarked vehicle, and part of one lane on Radcliffe New Road was closed off.

An officer with a dog was spotted helping with the search of the area.

Both cars involved in the crash were heavily damaged, although nobody is thought to have been seriously injured in the collision.

The closure of part of Radcliffe New Road caused queues of traffic back towards Manchester Road.

The MEN has approached Greater Manchester Police for more information.
