Police hunting driver after hit-and-run leaves man in hospital

Officers are still trying to track down a driver who left a man needing urgent hospital treatment after a hit-and-run in Rochdale.

A pedestrian was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition after a horror collision on Milnrow Road last Thursday.

In an update issued this morning, Greater Manchester Police says the man remains in hospital while the driver is yet to be identified.

Police were called out to the scene at around 4.40pm last Thursday.

Following initial enquiries, police say a brown Skoda Octavia had been travelling along Chichester Street in the direction of Milnrow Road.

When the car reached the junction with Milnrow Road, it overtook a vehicle waiting to turn left.

The Skoda crossed to the opposite side of the carriageway before turning left onto Milnrow Road, and as it turned the car hit a pedestrian who had been crossing the road.

Police say the Skoda failed to remain at the scene and the car was later found abandoned on Percy Street, Rochdale.

In a statement issued at the weekend, a GMP spokesperson added: "Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the Skoda driving in the area at the time or earlier in the day to get in touch with police.

"Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have footage, including dashcam, mobile phone, CCTV or doorbell footage."

Anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 4741 quoting incident 1770 of January 6, 2022.

Alternatively, details can be passed to the force's LiveChat function at www.gmp.police.uk or anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
