An emergency declaration that led to a Gold Coast primary school being locked down has lifted, but a manhunt is ongoing following a domestic violence incident.

Police have released the image of Mark Lutgenau, after their search for the 37-year-old sparked the Public Safety Preservation Act covering the Ormeau State School and parts of Ormeau was declared on Tuesday morning.

Officers believed he was armed at the time.

Their investigations began on Monday night after police were called to an address at Upper Coomera.

No one was physically harmed in the domestic incident and Mr Lutgenau had left the scene.

"Anyone who sees Mark is urged to call Triple Zero immediately," police said in a statement on Tuesday night.

'Members of the public are advised not to approach him for any reason.

"Residents and business owners are asked to be vigilant of any suspicious activity or unknown people in the area and immediately contact police."

Acting Inspector Kevin Gant said police locked down parts of Ormeau to make sure the public was safe and Mr Lutgenau wasn't hiding in the area.

"We'll continue to search for him and to try to locate him, so we can resolve the issue," Mr Gant said.
