A man is seriously injured after being 'violently' beaten with a 'wooden bat type weapon' in a car park.

The victim was walking through a covered car park behind the old Job Centre building in Bannatyne Street, Lanark at around 8.30pm on Sunday.

He was approached by another older man who got out of a blue vehicle and attacked him with a wooden bat.

The violent assault left the victim seriously injured.

A manhunt is underway to track down the attacker who is described as around six foot tall, of medium build and with short, grey hair.

Detective Constable Peter King of Wishaw Police Station said: "I am appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, or if anyone knows of any person and vehicle matching the description in the area at that time, or who has any information which could help our investigation to contact Wishaw Police Station.

"You can do so by calling via 101, quoting reference number 1485 of  October 22 2019.

"Or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
