These pictures show how vandals caused major damage at a Metro station car park.
The incident took place at Northumberland Park Metro Station, in North Tyneside, on Friday night, when a number of glass panels near a set of stairs were smashed.
Now, Northumbria Police and Nexus are carrying out inquiries to find the culprits.
A police spokesperson said: “On Saturday, March 21, we received a report of criminal damage that had happened overnight in the car park of Northumberland Park Metro Station.
“It was reported that a number of the glass panels near the stairs had been smashed, causing significant damage.
“Intentional acts of criminal damage are totally unacceptable and an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible. Anyone found to have been involved will be dealt with robustly."
A Nexus spokesperson added: “This was a mindless act of vandalism at a key facility on the Metro system. We are working with the police and will do all we can to help them to pinpoint the culprits.
“This happened at a time when people are not supposed to be on the transport system for anything other than absolutely essential journeys, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"We urge parents to take this on board and ensure that children and young people follow the restrictions and remain at home, something which will help to halt the spread of Covid-19.”
