Police hunt thugs who torched brand new eco bus at Glasgow Fort shopping centre

Police are hunting thugs who torched a bus at the Glasgow Fort shopping centre.

Emergency services raced to the Easterhouse outdoor complex at around 6pm on Saturday night after reports of the large-scale blaze.

The First Bus double decker bus was empty when the fire broke out and no one was reported to have been injured.

Police have now launched an enquiry into the fire which they have deemed as ‘wilful’.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland told the Daily Record: “Enquiries are ongoing.”

It is understood that the bus, which was one of a £100 million fleet of brand new eco vehicles, was set alight by yobs throwing a flare.

First Bus had ordered the fleet for Glasgow city centre’s Low Emission Zone.

Police have taken forensic samples from the vehicle. And it is thought CCTV nearby is being checked.
