Police hunt thugs who carried out vicious early-evening assault in Ayr town centre

A 46-year-old man sustained serious injuries to his head and arm during a shocking attack on Ayr High Street.

Ayrshire Live can reveal that a 37-year-old man was also injured during the same incident.

The attack took place on Monday, June 28 and not on Tuesday, June 29, as was initially believed.

Police say the attack took place around 6.45pm near to the Tesco store and would like witnesses to come forward.

The 46-year-old was taken to Ayr Hospital for treatment while the 37-year-old suffered a minor injury but did not require medical attention.

Officers are keen to speak to two men seen in High Street at the time of the assaults.

One is described as around 6ft tall, of medium build and was wearing an orange high-visibility long-sleeved top and black shorts.

The other is described as in his 20s, of slim build and was wearing a blue hooded top, orange and black striped T-shirt and dark trousers.

Detective Constable Gordon Thomson, of Ayr CID, said: “The motive for this attack is unknown but one of the men sustained serious injuries and needed hospital treatment.

"I am appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time who may be able to help with our enquiries, particularly the two men seen on the High Street.

“If anyone was driving in the area at the time and has dash-cam footage that could help with our investigation then I would ask them also to get in touch. Likewise anyone with private CCTV.

“Anyone who can help is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident number 3040 of Tuesday, 29 June, 2021, or make a call anonymously to the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
