Police hunt thieves after Hamilton petrol station robbery

Police are hunting thieves who robbed a Hamilton petrol station on Friday, September 4.

It’s believed two men entered the BP Service Station on Burnbank Road before threatening a staff member and stealing a three-figure sum of cash along with a large quantity of cigarettes of assorted brands.

The pair then made off in the direction of the Burnbank/Whitehill area at around 5.20am.

Police confirmed there were no injuries, however staff were terrified by the ordeal.

The first man is described as around 6ft, slim build with a local accent. He was wearing a dark-coloured hooded top.

The second man is around 5ft 2ins with a fat, stocky build. He was wearing a grey Nike zipper top, blue medical face mask and dark sunglasses.

Police in Lanarkshire are appealing for information on the incident and urge locals to get in touch if they saw anything at the time.

Detective Constable Colin Stark, of Cambuslang CID, said: “The staff weren’t injured but it was extremely frightening for them and we’re appealing for the public’s help.

“Anyone with information about this incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously around that time, please contact us on 101 quoting incident number 0470 of 4 September. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
