Police hunt suspect holding crutch after Windrush exhibition vandalised for second time in Brixton

Police want to speak to this man - (Metropolitan Police)

The Metropolitan Police is appealing to trace a suspect after an exhibition celebrating the Windrush generation in Brixton was vandalised for a second time.

The police said it received reports that the display board in Windrush Square had been vandalised at 11.34am on July 16.

The board was part of the Windrush Untold Stories exhibition; a showcase which honours Caribbean migrants who arrived into the UK between the 1940s and 1970s through portraiture and first-hand accounts.

The force has now released a CCTV image of a man they want to trace in relation to the incident.

The suspect was seen entering the square at 9:53am. He has been described as approximately 30 to 40 years old, of medium build, and was carrying a walking aid or crutch.

He was last spotted walking northbound on Brixton Road past Morley’s department store.

Officers are keeping an open mind as to his motivations.

This incident is not believed to be related to the incident that took place in the same location on July 3, 2025. In the first incident, a 24-year old man was arrested and has since been bailed while enquiries continue. The incident, with a differnt suspect, was not believed to be racially motivated.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond, who leads policing in the area, said: “Both offences have understandably caused distress among the local community. We are liaising directly with the exhibition organisers to keep them updated on both our investigations.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area over the coming days and the public is encouraged to approach these officers directly with any concerns.”

Those with any information are encourage to come forward and contact the police on 101 quoting CAD 5870/16JUL25.
