Police hunt off-road biker who threatened young family and injured their dog

Police are hunting for an off-road biker who threatened a young family and injured their pet dog.

An off-road bike was being ridden on a narrow public footpath in Pentyrch and came close to colliding with the family who were taking their daily exercise.

Officers say the rider was verbally abusive to the family and drove past them at speed colliding with one of the dogs.

The dog suffered a swollen leg but fortunately, after being checked by a vet, does not need surgery.

The incident happened on the public path that leads from the quarry, at around 4.30pm on Monday, April 27.

PC Helen Abdullahi, from Fairwater Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: "This was a frightening and intimidating experience for the family who were quietly enjoying their daily exercise.

"Such aggressive behaviour is completely unacceptable and would appeal for anyone with information on this individual to please contact us."

It is the believed the same rider had driven at an elderly female walking her dog earlier that day.

A South Wales Police spokeswoman said that anti-social use of off-road bikes is not only against road traffic regulations but is also extremely dangerous.

She added: "Riding off-road bikes is particularly irresponsible in the current climate, as a breach of important public health restrictions which are in place to help protect our NHS and save lives.

"Their use could also put additional pressure on key health workers and other emergency services."

Legislation allows police to seize such uninsured vehicles and those being driven without a licence.

Earlier this month, officers seized an off-road motorcycle that was being ridden in a careless manner on Church Road in Pentwyn.

The suspect in Pentyrch is described as white with tattoos on his forearm and as having a Cardiff accent.

Anyone with information is asked to please contact South Wales Police : Heddlu De Cymru on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting occurrence number * 145359 .
