Police hunt mobile phone fraudster after brazen mobile phone scam in Stirling city centre

An appeal has been launched by police after a member of the public was scammed into buying a fake mobile phone in Stirling on Sunday evening.

The incident took place when the victim when approached by the scammer after withdrawing money from a cash machine in the Barnton Street area of the city at around 5pm.

The seller then offered the victim a mobile phone at a reduced price - but after agreeing a price, the victim realised that the items were imitation phones despite being authentically boxed.

Police have issued a description of the man they are hunting in connection with the scam.

He is described as five foot, ten inches tall bald man with a bushy dark/greying beard and a heavy build.

He was also wearing a distinctive 'flowery shirt', with a black jacket and dark trousers.

Local cops have also urged members of the public not to purchase goods when approached in the street, even if the items appear to be genuine and have a good price.

They have also urged locals not to buy items when approached after taking cash from an ATM.

Anyone with information related to the incident are being urged to call 101 quoting incident number 3332 of 12th July 2021.
