Police hunt liquor scammers

Victims of a scam promising cheap top-shelf spirits have lost thousands of dollars.

South Australian police have warned people to be suspicious of cheap deals in the lead-up to Christmas.

Police say over the past week four people have been contacted by a stranger on their mobile phones and promised top-shelf spirits by the case for as little $250.

The scammer claims to be from a trucking company and sets up a meeting point at Grand Junction Road at Regency Park where he meets his victims.

He takes the money then walks into a truck stop and is not seen again.

Police believe several people are involved in the scam because they have been given varying descriptions of the suspects.

The victims have lost anywhere between $500 and $1,500.
