Police are hunting three men who tied up a family as they burgled a London family home armed with knives and a gun.

Officers said the men forced entry to a home in Cockfosters at 5pm on Wednesday and tied up the four occupants before stealing their jewellery.

The suspects, who wore balaclavas, were seen fleeing the scene in a car. One person reported they saw one man carrying a firearm.

No one was harmed during the incident.

Detective Inspector Paul Ridley from North Area said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the individuals at home.

“Thankfully none were harmed although they were very alarmed by the nature of the break in and subsequent burglary."

Police are looking at CCTV footage and forensic analysis from the scene for more information and are appealing to the public to report anything suspicious from the time.

Mr Ridley added: “We need to catch the culprits. If you were passing the area or perhaps in traffic nearby and saw anything suspicious, we would like to hear from you.”

He said there would also be more police presence in the area.
