Police hunt for would-be thief who tried to steal van from Lanarkshire driveway

Police in Lanarkshire are appealing for information after a would-be thief attempted to steal a van from a driveway in broad daylight.

And when challenged by the owner, the man became aggressive and damaged the van with a chain.

The incident occurred in the Viewpark area of Uddingston on Sunday, March 14 just after 3pm.

Officers from the Bellshill response policing team are now appealing for witnesses or anyone with CCTV/DashCam footage to come forward .

Police posted: "An unknown man attempted to steal a van which was parked in the owners' driveway.

"When this man was challenged by the owner of the van, the male became aggressive, damaged the van with a chain and threatened the owner.

"He made off from the area in a taxi and was dropped off near by.

"This was a terrifying incident for the victim and officers are keen to identify the suspect.

"We'd encourage anyone who witnessed this incident or who may have CCTV/DashCam footage to please contact 101 quoting incident number "2098 of 14/03/21".
