Police are searching for a second suspect they would like to speak to in connection with the alleged rape of two teenage girls at a seaside resort.

Norfolk Police said officers were called to South Beach Parade in Great Yarmouth at 12.37am on Saturday following reports that two teenage girls had been raped.

The next day, a man in his 30s was arrested in Northamptonshire on suspicion of rape, the force said.

He was taken to King’s Lynn Police Investigation Centre for questioning and has since been released on bail.

A Norfolk Police spokesperson said: “Officers searching for a second suspect have identified a man they would like to speak to as part of their investigations and present lines of inquiry indicate this suspect is outside of the county and inquiries to locate him continue.”

In an earlier statement, the force described the second suspect as a white man with short dark hair, dark facial hair and aged in his 30s or 40s.

The force said that the suspect was wearing blue jeans and a dark green jacket with a white stripe on both sleeves.

Police have not released the nationality of either suspect and said they would not be doing so “as it does not serve a clear operational purpose”.

Chief Inspector Nick Paling, district commander for Great Yarmouth, previously said: “We recognise how shocking and distressing these incidents are for the victims, their families, and the wider community. Specialist officers have been deployed to support both girls as we work through this investigation.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area, with officers carrying out reassurance patrols. Please do approach them if you have any concerns or information.”

Officers have asked anyone who may have witnessed the incident or with any relevant information to report online, call police on 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously quoting crime reference 36/34665/26.
